How I began working in steel……
I discovered steel during my six-year sojourn in Bogota, Colombia. The grit of the city lent itself to working in a medium that was unforgiving, impenetrable, and hard. I scoured the scrap yards. I welded in steel fabrication shops that made oil pipes and bus stops. The men were gruff, their Spanish tough. To me, steel is a challenge both physical and mental.
I respect its chemistry, weight, and its refusal to bend its will.
