Ladders of Life pays tribute to the invaluable role that the fire station plays within the community.  The artwork serves both as a landmark and a visual monument of gratitude to the Greenville City Fire Department. 

The sculpture is composed of intersecting ladders, curved and abstracted, and words chosen by the fire fighters.  Honor.  Pride.  Integrity.

Beside the sculpture stands another smaller sculpture - "Guardians of Augusta" - a Dalmatian seated on a pedestal shaped like a fire hydrant.
