ARTIST STATEMENT
IN THE GARDEN
I am a steel sculptor specializing in medium to large scale indoor/outdoor sculpture for public and private clients. In my work, I focus on the urban landscape - its physical and geographical properties. I am drawn to the confines of space and through the placement of my work, I create and define a new sense of place.
As I work in different spaces, sites, and countries, I am oftentimes reminded of my own childhood - a time of living and bridging two very different worlds: Japan and the United States. This experience compelled me to create art that speaks and appreciates many languages, mediums, and cultures.
